GAME UPDATE 2: Days 5-8

GAME UPDATE 2
Following the Overgrowth Incident (as the Ship appears to be terming it), it takes most of Day 5 to get the lounge back into order enough for characters to use comfortably. Although it is not closed down, there is no quiet in the lounge until that evening, when the majority of the work is complete. Characters who choose to involve themselves in the lounge on day 5 will see the surprise trees sheared into chunks by the chainsaw and the vines cut back before removal begins, and many of the larger blocks of wood are left stacked against the fore wall of the lounge for now. The entire place smells of the sawdust that coats the floor.

Under the layer of plant debris, about half of the furniture of the lounge is broken, and most of it was pushed towards the center of the room. Broken furniture is replaced on the night between days 5 and 6, so by the morning of day 6 the lounge is once again functional. After that, the Ship turns its attention to once more reclaiming the suites to either side - more carefully, this time.

Lights - standard bright, cool white lights - remain on in the cafeteria from half an hour before dawn to half an hour after last meal from this point forward. Lights turn on in the lounge starting from around sunset on Day 6, but these are low-light warm yellow that provides just enough light for characters to see what they're doing, and they turn off again in the morning. The orangeish tone of the lights also doesn't seem to incite the plants into another mad burst of growth. Other than these, only the red strips of emergency lighting and the lights inside the elevators and bathrooms are on.

CAFETERIA OFFERINGS

Also from this point, the menu expands enough to have some variety - though meat and dairy are still missing in action aside from the tomato-based beef. Even the baked goods are produced dairy-free, which tends to produce a somewhat crunchier product due to the use of plant oils rather than butter in the cookies and pie crusts.

Breakfast:
Oatmeal bar
Toast bar (begins to include bagels starting the morning of Day 6)
Miso soup (in soup cart)
Grilled zucchini and tomatoes (with and without beef)
Avocado toast (starting Day 8)
Cinnamon rolls (starting Day 8)

Lunch:
Soup cart (chili and any three of tomato soup, squash/pumpkin soup, vegetable dumpling, and minestrone)
Salad bar
Sandwich bar (vegan, unfortunately - nut butters and mushrooms are still the only protein offerings)
Vegetable dumplings
Noodle stir fry (with tofu or mushrooms)
Cookies (oatmeal raisin, oatmeal cranberry, and what seem to be sugar cookies made with honey rather than white sugar)

Dinner:
Salad bar
Baked ziti (same options as last week's spaghetti except baked)
Basil pesto pasta
Noodle stir fry (with tofu or mushrooms)
Vegetable dumplings
Stuffed bell peppers (starting Day 7 - once again using the tomato-based beef)
Garlic toast

Dessert (served with dinner):
Fruit shaved ice
Pie (any 3 of: apple, cherry, pecan, blackberry, blueberry, peach)
Cookies (oatmeal raisin, oatmeal cranberry, honey)
Cinnamon rolls (starting Day 8)

The following items are available at all meals:
Tea cart
Coffee cart
Fruit juice (including lemonade) with optional ice
Fresh fruit (various) with optional honey
Fresh vegetables (various) with optional nut butters
Roasted nuts (shelled) including peanuts
Ice water

WEATHER & SHIP ROUTE

The sky remains open and cloudless for the foreseeable future, with temperatures remaining in the 70-75F/21-24C range during the day and 55-60F/13-16C range during the night. (The lounge remains a hothouse in the afternoons, still running at the 80-90F/27-32C range before cooling off again at night.) On the afternoon of Day 7, a few scattered clouds can be seen to the north of the ship, high in the sky.

The shattered moon continues to wane, but it is now obvious to characters paying attention that it runs a bit more slowly than Earth's. It doesn't hit last quarter until the night of Day 9.

The ship spends Days 8 and 9 climbing through the mountains, which means that the motion of the ship is even less regular than usual. Occasionally it will be angled sharply enough in ascent or descent that unsecured items slide across the clears floors in the lounge and cafeteria; however, there are no true vertical climbs this time that would cause characters to have difficulty standing or moving. However, the sliding objects does include both the furniture and the remaining hunks of tree trunk in the lounge, so take care that you don't get hit by a three-foot-across chunk of maple or oak lumber going back and forth.

OOC UPDATES

The morning of Day 9 will bring with it the opening of Character Housing, as well as a way to contact the Ship directly that isn't just yelling at the ceiling and hoping it deigns to talk to you. Another game update will be posted on March 30th with further information. This is not considered a major game event, as it isn't time-limited in nature; however, it is significant enough that mods will be writing a mingle log for it.

The next game event is currently planned to be announced on April 7th. This event will involve sign-ups for customized IC participation, a form for which will be included on the game announcement. The event will be Whispering-focused. More of a preview will be available with the Housing update. Additionally, a new Test Drive will be posted this week.

REGARDING ACTIVITY CHECK: As the game is currently still at an extremely small number of players, Activity Check is presently suspended (or rather, has not been initiated). So don't worry about it! There will be plenty of warning if/when mods decide to start checking for activity, but for now it is not the focus of mod energy. Also every single one of us has had a terrible mid-March so you know.

As always, questions welcome under the QUESTIONS comment header.
