Adric's not a good fighter. He's short and skinny and not particularly strong. Usually he just throws himself at a person and hopes for the best, kicking and flailing wildly (with varying success).

He turns around at the voice, realizing the man's too far away for any sort of surprise attack. And worse than that, he's got fire. What he's saying is obviously a lie, a ruse to lure Adric closer. If Adric's gonna survive this, he has to use every advantage he can.

He holds up a hand in return, mirroring the gesture - with his other hand, supposedly supporting him where he's crouched on the ground, he digs his fingers into the mulch. Then, when it seems like no one's going to attack, he grabs a handful of the dirt and flings it at the guy's face, immediately darting off to the side into a bush.
