TEST DRIVE 02

TEST DRIVE

Hello, and welcome to the second Pluviosa Test Drive!

This Test Drive corresponds to Days 4-12 in the ship calendar, and will run until around the game's next major event. You can get a better idea what's going on in the most recent Game Update which covers Days 5-8. Currently, character IC housing is not in operation yet; it is expected to open on Day 9 (part of the way through the Test Drive period). Otherwise, the ship is largely in the state described on the Setting page and in other game information.

Test Drive threads involving characters who are accepted are considered canon to the events of the game unless otherwise agreed by players/mods. Pluviosa does not do welcome mingle logs nor does it have any kind of in-character welcome information, making your test drive threads your character's arrival to the game setting. That said, mod-run interactions such as formal exploration and/or interactions with the Ship as an NPC are not available on the Test Drive.

It is advised that potential players familiarize themselves with the Premise page, the Rules/Session Zero page, and at least the first few paragraphs of the Setting page. As Pluviosa is a horror game, we especially encourage players to be aware of the content warnings that will be major themes of the game. If you have any further questions, you can ask them on the QUESTIONS header in the comments!

If you're test driving a character, you're welcome to join the game Discord and hang out and meet your fellow players!

ARRIVAL - LIKE THE RAIN

You wake up. You remember waking up, right? In another place, another time...

There's blood running down your fingers. Outside, the rain isn't pounding, yet, just a gentle patter...

Or is it?

As characters gain fuller awareness of their surroundings, they will realize that there is, in fact, no blood on their hands (save any that might have already been there). It feels as though they lost focus for a moment and hallucinated, but the hallucination ended with them somewhere else entirely.

There is not actually the sound of rain. If characters are near enough to a window, balcony, or even a hole in the ceiling, they will find that it is cloudless, beaming sunlight outside. The emptiness in the distance rolls on and on, completely absent any signs of life.

That being, of course, because the signs of life are all in here. Characters might wake up on any of the decks on the upper side of the ship - anywhere that isn't the cafeteria or lounge where previous arrivals spend most of their time is free game. This also means, of course, that they have the jungle of plants to contend with...

LIGHTS ON, SHOW START

Most areas in the ship are dark when characters arrive. That doesn't mean that they stay dark. Occasionally, lights overhead flicker on and off for a few minutes at a time.

The problem with this isn't the lights themselves (cool white and kind of industrial). It's the reaction that the addition of the extra light causes the plants in the dark areas of the ship that's cause for alarm. To describe the growth as explosive isn't an understatement - vines, saplings, and even thicker branches surge with growth, pushing outwards towards the distant sunlight and upwards towards the flickering bulbs.

The growth is sudden enough to take all but the most aware characters by surprise, and if they're in the wrong corner of the room, it's very easy to get tangled up, wedged in by a tree trunk, or otherwise trapped against some corner or wall. If you're lucky and skilled, you might be able to cut yourself out from there (or break down the wall you're shoved up against), but otherwise, there's only one solution left.

Yell like your life depends on it, and hope somebody out there can hear you. And that whoever hears is someone who is inclined to help, rather than leaving you there. Or worse.

Oh, and the lights flicker back off after a few minutes, of course. Hopefully you're not waiting for rescue in the dark (with the smell of mold and the general faint dampness of the forest) for too long.

TILT-A-WORLD

Occasionally, the whole ship tilts.

This is not simply the side to side motion of a ship on the water (or the equivalent motion brought on by the way this particular ship moves); it's an extremely forward or backward tilt that sends things sliding across the floor if they aren't secured by roots or something else. Unlike storm-tossed ships, the tilt is somewhat prolonged - rather than everything sliding back and forth a couple times a minute, the tilt lasts for five, ten, maybe as much as twenty minutes.

Although it's not enough to knock a well-balanced character off their feet, it's quite likely that new arrivals will not be particularly on-balance. And attempting to traverse the ship with the tilt is a tall order... especially when the ship's angle does unexpectedly change... to the exact opposite direction. All that goes up the mountain must go back down, and a glance out the windows reveals that that's exactly what's going on, as the ship progresses across a mountainous landscape without real regard for the concept of mountain passes.

And for characters who have managed to make their way to the "civilized" parts of the ship, namely the cafeteria and the lounge above it... None of the furniture in these areas is secured. The cafeteria carts under the direct control of the Ship don't seem as inclined to go anywhere, but the tables and chairs in the cafeteria and the couches and armchairs upstairs... Well, it's a good thing both spaces are surrounded by railings. Large chunks of tree trunk also still littler the lounge, sliding back and forth and occasionally rolling with great force across the floor.

Better hold on tight.

SOMETHING WHISTLING

While wandering around the ship's interior, characters might occasionally hear a person whistling.

The sound always seems to be coming from just around the corner, but it sounds alive in a way that other sounds don't. Maybe more alive, even, than the rustle of leaves, the occasional drip of water, and the sounds of things sliding back and forth across the grimy, leaf-covered floors. The whistler, whoever they are, doesn't actively respond if called out to - but the whistling does pause, as though indicating that the call was heard, before starting up again.

If characters choose to follow the whistling, they're inevitably led to the same place - somewhere overlooking the great gap down the middle of the ship, whether an internal suite's balcony, one of the bridges crossing between the two halves, or one of the hallways that runs alongside it. Once they're there, there's no whistler in sight; however, characters will be filled with the overwhelming urge to look over the edge of the railing and down into the lower parts of the ship.

Exactly what they experience after looking down varies. Some will hallucinate that they've fallen over the side, feeling their balance go haywire and seeing the floor rushing up to them right up until the moment of "impact," at which everything returns to normal. Some will feel a stranger's hands on their shoulders, threatening to push them over with a great shove that goes through them with incorporeal fingers. Some will just hear unidentifiable laughter right up close to their ears, and experience the distinct sensation that there's someone laughing at them, in a haha-made-you-look kind of way.

But whatever happens, when they look up, there's no one there - or at least not anyone that physically close to them. The one good thing about being drawn to the middle section of the ship by whatever prankster this is is that it makes it a lot easier to run into people if you're all drawn to the same, highly visible place.

And at least the other person is flesh and blood, right? Probably.

Thrashing in the undergrowth - not that unusual a sound, but most of the boat's longer-term residents have wised up to things like "don't go in the empty suites unaccompanied" and "always carry a sharp object." The flashes of light don't match anyone on the ship that he knows of - Tartaglia's blades are blue or purple, depending on which element, and Shang Qinghua's sword generates flashes of light, not steady light as seen through foliage.

There is something in the sense of this person that itches at him, just a little. He would remember this sensation.

Rather than approach too close - you don't do that when someone's swinging energy weapons around unless you want to lose at minimum some part of your clothing, and clothing is in short supply - Neuvillette instead calls out, his voice carrying (but in a mundane way, for someone used to projecting their voice, not with his Authority). "Do you require assistance?"

[personal profile] nightmareofdivinity 2024-05-26 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
He pauses as he senses someone approach - someone with a familiar aura. They feel like an Endless, though not quite. Something's wrong, it's off, but just slightly. None god with left dragon. There's an immediate feeling of wariness at the same time relaxation washes over him - someone he can be on the same level as. Finally. Oddly, this one even reads as water-aligned as well, the same as himself and the opposite of his other half. Even if he himself only reads as half of a water dragon it's still better than nothing.

"Assistance, nay. Guidance, perhaps. Once we hath cleared a path through this foliage we wouldst ask of thee some queries."
highjustice: (let me explain)

[personal profile] highjustice 2024-05-26 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
The mode of speech is archaic even by his standards - and a deliberate choice, it must be, given the language they've been granted as a means of communication.

Fortunately, Neuvillette is well familiar with the theater, even if he does not have the skills of an actor. He recognizes commitment to an image, a perception - after all, his own is the image of the court - and isn't about to question it, at least not at the moment. There is something familiar about this person that tingles and itches at him the closer they are drawn together, but if there is a trait in common to dragons in any world, it is patience.

"The hallway is clear in this direction," he says. "You need not be concerned about striking my person - I am more adept at such matters than most give me credit for."
nightmareofdivinity: ([emperor] uncertain)

[personal profile] nightmareofdivinity 2024-05-26 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Less deliberate choice and more 'temporally displaced and not caught up to speed', but he'd commit to the image either way. He slices through the last bits of the greenery between them and immediately banishes the energy sword - it would not do to come to another Endless(?) bearing arms. He brushes his hair out of his face and pauses, suddenly weirdly... anxious. It's a feeling he hasn't felt since he was first summoned and awaited his first orders. But he's never met another dragon, and the being in front of him cannot be anything but.

So for the first time in... ever, Fou-Lu bows. It's not a full bow, but it's formal enough without being too dramatic. He straightens up and looks the few inches up at the other dragon, one of his eyes narrowed to a cat's eye pupil. "Greetings, elder sibling. We - I didst not expect to meet one of our kind here. Though I sense a difference between us, so forgive me if naming thee 'sibling' causeth thee offense."

It answers the itch, the feeling of familiarity that he cannot place - but for once in his life, Neuvillette is caught completely off-guard, with no words immediately to hand. Only once before has he been caught such that no words at all will come.

(And it was not all that long ago, was it.)

"Please, there's no need for that," he says. "You've caused no offense - truthfully, I am not sure how you could."

Disparaging the choice that Focalors made, perhaps. A dislike of the gods would only be to be expected, in another dragon of Teyvat at least, but Neuvillette would not take well to anyone saying that her justice was flawed, when she restored him at such great cost to herself.

After another moment of recovery, he says, "The dragons of Teyvat are few and far-between, and I have never met another of my own kind in person. The request for patience lies with me, if anyone."

"Teyvat remains a land unknownst to me, but I canst sense that we art far from the land I hath dwelled in for so many centuries. Endless are few and far between in the world I wert summoned to as well, and the other half of ourselves hath only recently appeared." It's... it's another dragon, so he can be honest about that. He can probably sense it if he looks, anyway - half of his soul, his essence, his being as a dragon is missing. He knows it's obvious. It always has been, to those with the senses to look. He couldn't hide it if he tried.

He blinks and his eye starts to go back to normal, though not completely. It's still definitely active - it's not a voluntary thing, even for him. "Though I... though mayest not know what Endless are. I suppose I merely spoke as if thou wouldst understand even though thou art clearly not from the same world. ... They art those summoned from another world to serve as gods. Once their purpose hast been completed, they remaineth in the world as dragons to watch o'er the world." So he's a dragon, but not technically a dragon in status since he hasn't completed his full purpose yet, but let's call him a dragon anyway to avoid the headache.

It's not as shocking, but it does bring him up short internally for a moment. Not the being split in two - in some ways, that Neuvillette knows, because of the system he's about to explain. Until very recently, half of his power resided in another; for every other Dragon Sovereign, such remains the case.

"In Teyvat, it is much the opposite," he says. "The dragons are the original inhabitants of the world, and in the distant past, much of our power was stolen by the Heavenly Principles, and in turn given to their creations to rule over the land. Those gods, known as the Seven or the Archons, still hold that power to this day, while the days before humanity are but stories even to us - with one exception in each regard. The dragon of Dendro is old enough to have experienced that conquest, and the Hydro Archon..."

He pauses, trailing off, and then finally settles on, "She sacrificed everything she possessed in order to destroy the construct of Celestia's usurpation and restore that Authority to me."
nightmareofdivinity: ([emperor] madness)

[personal profile] nightmareofdivinity 2024-05-27 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
He tries to absorb that - dragons not being summoned, but being the original inhabitants? It seems so strange... but nothing about this place is right. "So thou art younger than that conquest, but still retain that power? Or hath I been mistaken? ... 'Tis always the way of others to covet the powers of dragons for themselves, however. That doth be the... main difficulty I face in mine own Empire I built before succumbing to slumber."

Fou-Lu's normally composed expression twitches slightly, his mouth curling downwards before he forces it into a neutral expression again. "They wouldst have me sleep once more. Or would have at the beginning. I doth believe I am a larger issue for them now. Their emperor is dead, after all. ... Though I do believe 'tis what mortals wouldst call a case of 'self-defense'." He chuckles, low and dry and humorless. Soniel was a fool to think that Dragonslayer would work on him. ... It had hurt, certainly. But slay him? No, no, no.

"There would always be another Dragon Sovereign to replace the old eventually, in theory. The Hydro Dragon of that time perished before I was born, and the dragons of the other elements likewise - though I have not heard even a whisper of an Electro Dragon in a very long time."

He had his suspicions, when the great serpent Orobashi rose from the depths, but he was still young then, and it would be difficult now to know if the serpent was dragon, god, or something else entirely. The only one whose testimony might shed light on the matter is the Electro Archon herself, and that is a matter that he is in no hurry to investigate. Eternity, more than any of the other gods, will keep.

Instead he says, "I have lived among the humans of Fontaine for several centuries, now, and seen both the best and worst of what humanity is capable of. I have no doubt there are those who would covet my power if they knew the truth of it; they resemble their creator, the Heavenly Principles, in that way."

But there is neither anger nor that dry tone that speaks of past pains in his counterpart's voice as he speaks of it. Instead, he continues, with sincere admiration and even affection in his voice, "But equally many times have I seen them possessed of such kindness and empathy that their connection to the usurper strains belief. Do not judge them too harshly based upon the sins committed by the worst of them."
nightmareofdivinity: ([emperor] silver bells)

[personal profile] nightmareofdivinity 2024-05-27 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"I see." A cycle, then. Not true immortals. Not truly 'Endless' in that sense of the word. Perhaps more like him in the way he is now - able to live a long time and yet still capable of dying. He did say the dragon 'perished', but not how - maybe the other dragon simply doesn't know.

The affection and admiration only feels like sandpaper being drawn across a wound. How could someone who had lived for so long not see the wickedness? Or had he simply been blessed with a group of mortals that had been exceptionally kind to balance out enough of the evil he'd seen? He digs into his pocket and pulls out a set of silver bells. His hand shakes as he presents them to Neuvillette - not to take, just to see. There's a sickly aura to them, an almost poisonous miasma of hatred and anguish and pain.

The younger dragon's voice is low and shaky as he speaks. "The mortals hath devised weapons made of torture. Weapons that rely on connections to a place... or a person... as well as torture. They took her. They took the only person who hath ever treated me as one of their own and they hath used her against me. And not only this, but they hurt her terribly in the process. This... the Empire that I hath built hath become something different than what I hath intended. It must not be allowed to remain. They must not be allowed to remain."

He can't stop shaking. Why is it that when he keeps thinking of her his heart beats so hard in his chest? Why is it that he trembles in rage so terribly? He doesn't understand. He isn't sure he ever will. He isn't sure he ever can. And yet... and yet...

Fou-Lu brings his free hand up to his mouth and coughs against his hand wraps. A speck or two of blood appears on the fabric. It's fine.

Neuvillette gives the bells due examination, and his counterpart due ear. His expression is pained, for those who know what to look for - but the other side effects of his emotions will be much more obvious.

Rain, sourceless, begins to fall in the immediate area around them. It starts as condensation on the ceiling, but it doesn't drip in defined places like true condensation would. It doesn't run down the walls or plink down from the lowest points; it falls, for all the world, like they were under the open sky.

The Hydro Sovereign cannot be surprised by the suffering that humans will inflict upon each other, and other beings. But that doesn't mean that he does not weep for it.

He says, "And I will not deny you your justice against those responsible for such reprehensible acts. Indeed, I shall wish you all swiftness in delivering it, and the destruction of the systems and methods that made it possible."

His words are measured carefully, and there is just the faintest hint of the judge that is his entire truth behind the words, "But I must ask you this - are all of the people of your world to bear the weight of the sins of the few? Even those who live in complete ignorance that such people exist, even the babes in their beds?"

The rain falls, perhaps pointedly, on the spots of blood, washing them away. Neuvillette is wise enough to not touch Fou-lu directly, not when there is such tension in the air.

As the Chief Justice, Neuvillette has but rarely recused himself from a trial, even one dear to his heart. Only when he himself investigates, taking the role of prosecution, does he do so.

Never, officially, has he taken the role of the defense.

"By your own words, you too have seen the depths of their kindness. If you did not care for the person stolen from you so deeply, then the storm of justice would not rage so within your chest. And I believe you already know that."

"... I know that I wert fated to become the dragon of the future, the Yorae Dragon. Or I would hath been, wert I complete. I knoweth we wert prophesized to bring great joy or great destruction. ... I had truly hoped the former. I had labored to build a lasting empire of good people, of kind people, of people who could go forth and share what they knew."

He lowers his head and shakes it, breathing deeply. The water does seem to ease his tension, just a bit - but he's so tense that it barely seems to matter. He honestly feels sick again, just thinking about those people. "She wert one of the only kind people I hath met in this age. Certainly the city must fall at the very least. The military, the generals, those who wouldst seek me out and kill me or use me. Then I shalt join with our other half. We shalt see who hath injured him, and go from there."

Maybe it would start a war between West and East, but he was willing to do that. He'd been incomplete for centuries, and his other half was newly born and needed guidance. Besides, his role had been to unite the scattered tribes under one banner. If none of them were alive, that would also count.

"I do not care if mortals claimeth us the villain. I do not care if we art seen as a monster. We care that they doth lie to one another, injure themselves and their fellows, and they kill each other and all around them for sport. I care that they art cruel, that they art foolish, that they..."

He grips the bells tighter. They jingle slightly and the sound causes Fou-Lu to wince.

"... They art unworthy of our salvation. Mayhap mortals of thy world are different, but ours art weak, vain, foolish creatures, fated to fade. ... We wouldst have never assisted them if we wert not forced into doing so by our nature, I think."

Neuvillette is no grand rhetoricist and he knows it. There is a reason that his domain is the bench, not the stand.

He knows he will not find the words, not against someone who is so deeply hurt. Because it isn't about the words.

Justice is squarely within the domain of emotion, not law or logic. There is no force great enough to argue someone out of being hurt. To try is not only doomed to failure, but inflicts further hurt in the end.

(It does not mean that the rain ceases to fall.)

Instead, he says, carefully, after much deliberation, "I no longer believe in 'by one's nature.' I do not believe it of them, and I will not believe it of you. Once upon a time, you made the choice to try and do right by them. Even if you now judge it to be a mistake, that does not take away your capacity for kindness."
nightmareofdivinity: ([emperor] choking on emotion)

[personal profile] nightmareofdivinity 2024-06-03 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Every word out of this elder dragon's mouth makes Fou-Lu want to lash out. How dare he? How dare someone, especially another dragon, judge him so? It's clear to him that the other has not suffered like he has, has not seen the side of humanity that he has, has seen if not only kindness then a lot more kindness than he has. "I know not how it doth be in thy world, but in mine it be simple fact that we art summoned for a purpose and that we cannot deny that purpose. We art destined for it, whether we wish it or no. I made a choice to try to aid them, aye, but the mortals of now art not the mortals of old."

The rain does little to soothe the anger in his heart, swelling like an ocean tide and furious as a typhoon. "I know not whence they became so corrupt, but it must be rooted out. And it must start at the top, with the most corrupt." Yes, there's terrible people at the bottom - Mami's landlord wasn't a great person, for instance - but he's smart enough to know that the source of trouble is usually at the top of the food chain, not the bottom.

... That being said, he doesn't intend to stop with just them. "... We canst not abide a world that would do such terrible things to their own. We cannot condone the continuation of life in a world that would torture and kill just to curse their enemies. We cannot! The very thought disgusts me!" Him. Probably his other half, too. He doesn't know. He's never been complete. "How canst thou claim there to be any justice in a world that would do such a thing? How canst thou claim that they art anything but vain, ignorant, prideful, selfish, foolish creatures? They art beneath us. Those of that world... they art the Fading Ones. They art not... they... doth not deserve our mercy..."

He pulls the bells close to his chest, dipping his head. He's so frustrated. Why can't this one see?

The rain continues to fall. By now, it is surely drenching the both of them.

Neuvillette says, his voice full of the emotion that does not show on his face (but does surely show, to those who know what to look for), "Because I have seen them make that justice with their own hands. How can I look upon those who are willing to sacrifice everything they have, for the sake of people who will never thank them, and call them selfish? How could I hear centuries of their weeping, and not wish to make it a little less?"

Perhaps the world has been kinder to him. But it was not kinder to Wriothesley, to Navia and her father, to Carole and Vautrin, to Furina.

"In my world," he says, "humans are the creations of the Heavenly Principles, the usurper who slaughtered my ancient kindred to create the gods. And those same Heavenly Principles declared that the humans of Fontaine were all guilty of unpardonable sin, simply for being born in a way they did not devise."

Every equal to Fou-Lu's rage is the tempered steel in Neuvillette's voice when he speaks of the usurper. It is the drawing out of the wave before a tsunami.

"For close to five hundred years, I have sat, overseeing judgement in the Court of Fontaine. In the name of the God of Justice, I handed out verdict and sentence to the best and the worst of humanity. For hundreds of years, my ears have been filled with the sounds of souls that cry out for justice, just as you do."

His voice drops, to something that can only barely be heard over the (pounding, splattering, pouring) rain. "And on the very last day, even as the waters rose, that god asked of me, When you regain your full power as an elemental sovereign, what verdict shall you pass upon us?"

He does not give his answer. It is as obvious now as it was at that moment. That Fou-Lu is from another world, one which is, he can only hope, beyond the gaze of the heavens, is the only reason he would speak of her at all.

"I will not insult you by claiming that my words alone should be enough to convince you. You are in pain, and that pain is justified. But neither will I condone bringing that pain to bear against those who have done you and your loved ones no harm. To do so would make you no better than those you claim to condemn - and those who I pass judgement upon in the courthouse every day."

The wet and cold doesn't seem to bother him. If anything he prefers it over the heat. He's tempted to transform and flee, but he's aware there's little space to flee in this place. He's going to run into the other dragon eventually. And besides, his pride would take such a severe beating in the process he would... rather not.

He listens closely to the other's tale. A dragon of justice, that surely must understand... he surely must understand that this cannot be allowed! This abomination of injustice, this horrific ignominy... surely he must know what kind of verdicts must be cast on the wicked. Surely he must know how they must be punished. The corruption cannot simply be a single source...

"What shouldst I then do, elder brother? I canst not ignore this transgression. And I hath already made a ruling. The Imperial Capital already lay half in ruins. I wert awaiting mine other half there. ... Those that took up arms against me... many of them lie dead now. Not all, but many." There were a few left. A few... left...

He stumbles, vision suddenly blurring for a moment again. 'Loved ones'? No. No, that can't be right. He's no mortal, he doesn't have loved ones, he -

Fou-Lu catches himself as he falls to one knee mostly by instinct, blinking heavily. His grip on the bells remains tight, but he coughs into the back of his hand wrap. ... Ah. Blood again.

The use of 'elder brother,' this time, stings - after all, Neuvillette is among the youngest of Teyvat's dragons, and perhaps the strangest. He can only imagine what his predecessors would say about his choice, to spare humanity, to stand by their side, to take a place in fate and the heavens.

But it was his choice. Leviathan Judicator rises in the heavens in the place abandoned by Damocles Sola, in the place of a god, and he would not make a different decision now.

"What you should do," he says, with the air of someone who might well be an elder brother, at least to one little humangod in particular, "is have more care of your health when handling items that contain so powerful a curse."

The rain has not stopped, and his robe is soaked through. And even though they seem headed for conflict, perhaps inevitably, Neuvillette also cannot not be the person who crouches in turn to allow Fou-Lu to take his arm, if he needs it, if he decides that he can bear it.

All anyone can ever do, truly, is reach out, and hope that it is enough to change someone's path.

"As I have said, I will not claim that my words alone should be enough to convince you, and ultimately, every person's actions are their own, for good or ill. All I can do is ask that you be willing to give them a chance - if not those of your home world, at least the people here."

"... I cannot - I... this doth be all that is left of her. If I do not remember her, who shall?" He's not sure what to do, he's not sure why his heart hurts - it has to be the Hex. That's got to be it. Emotions are for weaker creatures, not for one such as himself. He cannot -

The other dragon is in front of him. He's reaching out - reaching out towards Fou-Lu. But he can't take it, he can't - his pride, his worth as a dragon and a god... he shakes his head and pushes himself to his feet, tucking the bells away. He can't let them leave him. He can't let them - but why? ... Why? He's not sure.

The cold is starting to get to even him, but the shudder is less from it than from his own feelings. He rolls his shoulders back and tries to regain his composure. "Those here hath not sinned against us or against the world in general. And if this world doth contain gods, they shouldst be the ones to sit in judgement." See? At least someone understands jurisdictions. "But living amongst them... as their better, I hath done so for many decades. As an equal... not." So. This is awkward.

"If they shouldst attack me I wilt retaliate in kind. But I wilt not hunt them down without reason to do so." He's just. Going to be awkward about it. Because how do you common folk? "... Though I know not if they - well. They wilt not know mine name as someone to be aware of."

If I do not remember her, who shall?, on the heels of his thoughts of a lost constellation... Well. It cannot actually rain any harder, not this far from the Primordial Sea.

"If she is half the person you so regard, she wouldn't wish for you to bring harm to yourself to make a point, either," Neuvillette says, voice more gentle. He stands easily, moving as though completely unaffected by the rain, except for how it weighs down his hair. "Just be careful of them. The emotions contained therein are palpable to my senses even at this distance."

He can't assume that another dragon is capable of the same sorts of things, especially one who draws no distinction between their kind and the gods. Such is the furthest thing from Neuvillette's case, after all, and the faint shift of his expression when Fou-Lu mentions that local gods should be the ones to sit in judgement perhaps betrays a bit of his normally opaque thoughts.

Perhaps the rain lightens a bit, at the twist of irony on his lips.

"Humans come in an infinite variety, which makes those of them who are a bit more worldly tolerant of even the oddnesses of those who are not their kind," he says. "Not that either you or I looks so very different from them, in the grand scheme of things. They took me as one of their own for some time before my lack of aging became too obvious to ignore." That was a very long time ago, of course.

"... Perhaps they art so. But it doth be what I have to remember her by." That mad, brave woman who tried to save a god... and paid the ultimate price for doing so. "Though we doth look similar to one type of mortals, yes. There art many types where I wert last." Now that he's thinking of it... "Most residents here seemeth to be of similar species. 'Tis unusual in a random gathering of peoples from my last world."

Translation: Why the hell are 90% of the people here the same species, that's just Wrong.

"I had been known as a god in mine time, though these last centuries of slumber hath clearly changed the world. We told the people we would one day return, and only some of them seemeth to have remembered such. ... Unfortunately, not those whose company I would have welcomed." And how they had known the exact date... he's not sure. "But those who welcomed God-Emperor Fou-Lu's return wert more... discourteous."

"Interesting. Most of Teyvat is populated almost entirely by humans - other races are rarer and usually specific to a single nation or even smaller region." Melusines are native only to Fontaine, the catfolk are only common in Mondstadt, and so on. "Though it wouldn't surprise me if there are others who are less of a match than they appear."

After all, gods appear to be human even to the trained eye, in many cases.

The rain is beginning to lighten up. Neuvillette says, "Although I have had people question in recent days whether or not I was a god, the identities of 'god' and 'dragon' are mutually exclusive on Teyvat. Until recently, I believe that most humans believed dragons to be found only in stories and ancient history, rather than beings that might yet live among them."

But then, you know, Stormterror and all that. Mondstadt's dragon certainly made an impression and brought the idea back ton the forefront of most people's minds, even if many outside the nation of the wind tend to think it's an overblown rumor.

"'Twould not surprise me either, if this place mayest draw in those such as ourselves." The lack of what others might consider 'animal people' is still weird, though. His clothes drip on the floor, creating puddles underneath him.

The Endless... "Amongst mine own kind I still art young, even though I hath lived for centuries. Mine other half wouldst be even younger still. Mere months old... I do not know what hath befallen him, though I do know he wert alive and moving toward the Empire when I last wert able to sense his presence." And now he can't, and there's a hole there, even worse than the ragged half-soul he'd had before - because what's worse than being empty is knowing that you could be whole and then being dragged away from it.

"The Endless doth not show themselves to mortals after their task be complete, as far as is known to me. Many still revere them - 'tis well known that one of the Eastern Kingdoms hath a shrine to the Wind Dragon. The others... I imagine that worship wouldst be varied depending upon the people."

"It's difficult to be certain of the ages of the other dragons of Teyvat - aside from myself, most are quite reclusive. The Dendro dragon is the eldest of us, a survivor from before the usurper arrived, and her age is difficult to determine with the corresponding lack of historical record. It is most likely upwards of ten thousand years. The 'younger' generation, such as it is, includes myself and the Anemo dragon at the least, and is somewhere between two and five thousand years depending on the individual."

He hums, and adds, "The eldest of the gods, Morax, is at least six thousand years old, and as far as humans are concerned the oldest being on Teyvat. The Hydro Archon is the youngest, just shy of her five hundredth birthday."

The planned celebration of which, already under planning for half a decade, has been severely derailed by recent happenings. At least he still has most of a year to figure out what to do about that.

"It is commonly believed that mortals who have ascended to godhood enter Celestia, the civilization in the heavens - but as to the truth of that matter, it is impossible to determine. It is true that the gods were once far more populous than they are now, however, and their numbers do not exceed seven now. When the god of one nation dies, they are replaced, and that alone is when a new god comes onto the stage."

"The ages of the other Endless art a mystery to me. I hath not had contact with them, neither before nor after mine slumber." So he's a little older than the Hydro archon and that's about it. Interesting. Though if he were to tell Fou-Lu about the plans, he might help where he could.

A civilization in the heavens... "I know not what happens to mortals once they die, though some few turn into restless spirits and monsters. As for 'replacement'... mortals art the ones who summon us, and the ones who possess the true ritual of summoning art not amongst the Empire's people. I do not know if there art any on the continent at the moment... but it matters not." His course is still set, though he won't hurt the people here. There'd be no point.

"... Though these fading ones hath not called gods that I know of in the years since mine own summoning. It might be possible that they hath done so, but I wouldst not be aware of it."

"I make no claims of knowledge of what becomes of humans, or indeed most beings, after their deaths, either." Elynas is an oddity who should not be regarded as the rule - even by dragon standards, if that's indeed what he was intended to be.

Neuvillette considers the information, and then finally says, "Perhaps that would be something worth looking into when you return." It is not an if, at least not for him, not yet. "If nothing else, they would probably be better placed to advise you than one who knows nothing of your world."
