Vayne looks to the cat, who glances back at him only briefly before continuing to watch the man in front of them (robes. a spellcaster of some sort? though actually, his clothing looks somewhat like what Anna might be more familiar with...). The cat's steady gaze is unblinking, but Vayne has to visibly weigh his response before answering, carefully, "Ah... Partnered, basically. Sulpher's been with me for a long time too."
A stark difference from the man's mouth running a mile a minute. Once again, there's a lot to unpack there, but it's getting somewhat easier to sift through. Different worlds, though ... well. He's already met at least one alien, and knowing people who dabble at least a little in dimensional magic, it's not so much a stretch to think there are places beyond the relatively isolated bubble he knows. And... wait, is there something wrong with his clothes? Because some of the other students get way more creative with their uniform customization.
"If everyone's from places that different from each other," he starts, a little thoughtful, "I'm kind of surprised that most of us still look the way we do." Humanoid, that is, considering Sulpher and the raven (Bob?) were called out specifically as examples of the only two nonhumanoids.
"Anyway, um... Aside from all that. If you've only seen worms, no other fauna, and a lot of plants... Do you know if anyone recognizes or, um, knows anything about them?" Like maybe, what's not poisonous? He hasn't really been looking too closely himself, but if this is shaping up to last a while, then maybe he needs to actually do a bit more hands-on investigation of the materials available.
